Island School After-School Classes - Winter Term

HICC is excited to offer Island School After-School Classes for the winter term. These enrichment classes provide creative, hands-on learning opportunities for elementary and middle-grade students in a relaxed, supportive environment.

• 8-week winter session

• Flexible enrollment — sign up for one day or both

• Full session or drop-in when it works for your schedule.

Weekly Schedule

MONDAYS

Creative Writing | 3:00–4:00 PM
Students will build storytelling and writing skills through fun prompts, discussion, and shared writing time. We will explore classic fables from Aesop and the playful poetry of Shel Silverstein, using them as inspiration for creative writing, humor, and imaginative storytelling - along with many other activities designed to spark a love of writing.

Tinkercad: 3D Design & Making | 4:00–6:00 PM
Students will learn the fundamentals of 3D design using Tinkercad. Through hands-on projects, they will explore spatial thinking, problem-solving, and creative design while building digital models and working toward simple fabrication-style projects.

THURSDAYS

Beginner Spanish | 3:00–4:00 PM
Students will be introduced to basic Spanish vocabulary and conversational phrases through games, songs, and interactive activities. This class focuses on listening, speaking, and building confidence in a fun, low-pressure environment. No prior Spanish experience is required.

Acrylic Painting | 4:00–6:00 PM
Students will explore acrylic painting techniques while learning about color, composition, and creative expression. This class encourages experimentation and personal style as students create original artwork in a supportive, process-focused environment.

Cost

• $15 per track (day) or $30 for both tracks for the full 8-week session
  (Monday or Thursday)

• $5 per day drop-in (suggested donation)

Who Can Attend

• Elementary & middle-grade students

• No prior experience required

• Materials provided unless otherwise noted
